The successful applicant will take the lead in formulating viable research projects on Humanitarian Affairs. An interest in the impacts of new technologies on HADR would be beneficial. He / she will lead in arranging of conferences, workshops and outreach events, as well as oversee and undertake institutional and administrative tasks relating to research agendas such as data collection and analysis, conduct literature reviews, etc. The Research Fellow / Senior Fellow is also expected to contribute to the School’s multidisciplinary research agenda, contribute to team research and policy-oriented projects, and mentor junior researchers.

The successful applicant should have a research focus in one or more of the following areas: India’s military modernisation, India’s relations with major powers (China and the United States) and regional powers in South Asia and East Asia, comparative civil-military relations in South and Southeast Asia, Indian Ocean security, and river dispute in Southern Asia. The successful applicant should have a research focus on key issues, trends, and developments in military-tech governance and responsible innovation of emerging technologies in defence.  Research problems in this area may include mapping norm development trajectories, mechanisms, and dialogues on responsible innovation in defence, including in areas such as artificial intelligence, autonomous weapons systems, and contested domains such as space, underwater, and cyber. Moreover, projecting how select countries, militaries, tech-companies, and international organisations are implementing and operationalizing responsible defence innovation and why.
